The mission of Cooking It Forward is to inspire cooking for food enjoyment and good health. And what better way to do this than to reach out to children and young adults with cooking workshops? Several times a year, I conduct cooking and nutrition workshops in schools or other community organizations to promote wellness, food literacy and cooking enjoyment.
The workshops are available in the New York Metro area and take two formats:
Hands-On Cooking Demonstrations: Engaging demonstrations with hands-on opportunities; conducted in a common area (eg, cafeteria); access to a kitchen facility is necessary
Nutrition Discussions: Interactive sessions focused on nutrition; usually conducted in a classroom setting
Each workshop is tailored to the specific age and ability level(s) of the participants. Ideally, they are planned jointly with teachers, school food service staff, school nurses and/or school wellness committees. Workshops are provided pro bono by Carol Altomare RDN. Food/supply costs are discussed during the planning stages.
